Core Beliefs of Hughesville Friends Church
Who is God according to our faith?
We believe in one true God existing eternally in three persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. Each person fully shares all divine attributes and possesses a distinct personality.
This triune nature defines God's unity and diversity, foundational to our understanding of His nature and work.
What is the nature of Jesus Christ?
Jesus Christ is God incarnate, the living Word made flesh through the Holy Spirit's miraculous conception and virgin birth. He is fully God and fully human, united in one person forever.
He lived without sin, died on the cross as a substitute for sinners, and rose from the dead in a glorified body, now seated at God's right hand interceding for believers.
What happened to humanity after the fall?
Man was created in God's image but sinned by disobedience, resulting in alienation from God and condemnation for all humanity.
Human nature is corrupted, making people unable to please God without spiritual renewal by the Holy Spirit.
How is salvation received and assured?
Salvation comes through faith alone in Christ, with God imputing righteousness to believers, justifying them before Him.
Those born again by the Spirit receive assurance of salvation, confirmed by the Holy Spirit's witness and God's Word, independent of human merit.
What role does the Holy Spirit play?
The Holy Spirit reveals Christ, applies salvation, convicts sinners, imparts new life, indwells believers, and seals them until redemption. Believers access the Spirit's fullness and power through faith, enabling a life that bears spiritual fruit to God's glory.
What is the Church's mission and future hope?
Jesus Christ is the Head of the Church, composed of all who have saving faith. Believers are called to gather regularly for worship, teaching, and encouragement.
Christ will return visibly and bodily to complete God's plan. Until then, believers are commissioned to share the Gospel worldwide, prioritizing this mission above all else.
